Venus Vulture
About the artist
Venus Vulture is mostly Sean Monaghan, a New Zealand-based musician, artist and writer, with occasional collaborators. Using field recordings, infrequent live instrumentation and voice, drones and sound sequencing, Venus Vulture music is layered and developed as a series of experiments, pieces of which are then processed and resequenced to create the final extended tracks.
Over the years tape-loops have given way to computer sequencing and the old portable cassette tape recorder has been replaced with various tape-free electronic gadgets recording directly to computer file. As well as the 2006 album abyssos on TurkbyTone Rekkids, Venus Vulture has self-released several tapes and CDRs.
Sean has exhibited paintings, pen and ink, and computer graphics in both solo and group shows around New Zealand, including the 2005 exhibition Rivalry with his sister Jane.
